About Us

Jimmy Speed, Professor of Anatomy at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh, donated his group of Exmoor ponies to the vet students of the University. Since then the ponies have been used for trekking and are now at Springfield Farm all year round.

We are a TRSS approved trekking section and all trek leaders undergo a year's training to ensure a high standard of care for both trekkers and ponies.

From September to June, members of the public can enjoy day treks at the weekend.  In the summer months, treks are run everyday except Friday. All the money made from the treks goes back into the care of the ponies and the running of the business. Trek leaders are not paid.

Our herd is currently made up of fourteen Exmoor ponies ranging from 8 to 22 yrs.
Anyone can come trekking* and we cater for all levels of riding ability. However, due to the size of the ponies (approx 11hh to 13hh) we cannot allow anybody over 12 and a half stone (79kg) (subject to change in winter) to ride. We also insist that any child under 12yrs old is accompanied by an adult.

12’2 Exmoor (unregistered) Gelding.

Zippy has been owned by EUEPTS for 2 years. Last summer he competed in pleasure endurance rides, and he has done pony club activities in the past. He is snaffle mouthed, but is best with a confident rider.
He was recently on loan, and became difficult to handle on the ground with this new owner. Since being back with our herd, he has improved dramatically but still needs an experienced, confident and understanding owner.
Would be excellent for a teenage rider wanting to improve their jumping, as he has springs in his feet! Or would suit a family with adults confident around horses.

Home far more important than price.
