Term Time Trekking (September through May)

The ponies are at Swanston Farm, EH10 7DS, in the Pentlands. Our unique What3Words code is: ///aware.event.famed

Please remember that the walk from the car park to the ponies takes ten to fifteen minutes, while the walk from the bus stops takes up to half an hour. You must ensure you factor this in to your travel plans, as if you are more than 20 minutes late your trek may be forced to leave without you and you will still be charged.

Please also note that while we try to avoid cancelling treks wherever possible, we do reserve the right to do so, for example due to unforeseen weather events, pony illness/injury, or incorrectly reported trekker age, weight, or ability. We endeavour to give as much notice as possible in the rare instances where we have to cancel. In these instances, we cannot take responsibility for travel costs incurred should you have already travelled to, or started travelling to our location.

If you are travelling to us by CAR:

From the centre of Edinburgh: Take the A702 from Morningside towards the bypass. Before reaching the bypass, turn right onto Oxgangs Road at the traffic lights. Once on Oxgangs Road, take the second left onto Swanston Road. Cross the bypass and park in the public car park for the Pentland Hills Regional Park to the left near the golf course. From this car park, take a foot path through the trees, head through some cottages and a kissing gate. Take the left hand path and this will take you right to our field! Please be respectful of golfers teeing-off on the course and remain quiet as you walk past.

If you are travelling to Edinburgh from further away:
Turn off the bypass at Fairmilehead and turn north towards Edinburgh. Turn left onto Oxgangs Road at the traffic lights and follow the instructions as above.

If you are travelling to us by LOTHIAN BUS (No. 4/5/15(A)/27)

For the No.5 or No. 27 Bus get off at Hunter’s Tryst, just across the road from Morrisons. Then walk back a little the way the bus just came from, and take the first road on your right (Tryst Park). Follow the road as it bends left then right, then immediately take a left, heading towards Swanston Road. Take a right onto Swanston Road, then follow it across the bypass and into Swanston. The Pentlands National Park car park is to the left of the golf clubhouse, go through the car park and you will find a footpath leading through the trees. Follow it up the hill and through some cottages, then go through the kissing gate after the cottages and take the left-hand path heading straight ahead of you along the edge of the golf course. Please be respectful of golfers teeing-off on the course and remain quiet as you walk past.

You can take either the No. 4 towards Hillend or the No. 15/15A towards Penicuik. Both buses go from the centre of Edinburgh at St. Andrew Square and run regularly. The stop to get off at in both cases is called Snow Sports Centre (Swanston Drive) and is the stop directly after the bus has crossed the bypass. If you press the button when the bus is going around the roundabouts above the Bypass, you can’t go wrong. From the bus stop, cross the road and head up the track marked with a green sign post for Swanston Farm. The drive will take you past the Lothianburn Golf Club car park and between golf courses. Once you reach a set of houses, turn left uphill past the golf course to reach our field. The walk is an easy 15-20 minutes, and already has great views of Edinburgh! Please be respectful of golfers teeing-off on the course and remain quiet as you walk past.
