The Exmoor Ponies were first bought to Edinburgh by Mary Etherington in 1949, and to celebrate the 75th year of their being here with us, a group of current trek leaders in the Section are publishing a book detailing the ponies’ history and adventures.
The Edinburgh Exmoor Ponies position in the Exmoor-world is unique for helping to kickstart the post-war breeding programme and was pivotal to early research and conservation efforts of the still-endangered breed. Chronicling the trekking and breeding initiatives through the years, this book aims to be a complete history of the Edinburgh Exmoor Pony herd. Filled to the brim with old pictures, interviews and newspaper articles this is the must-have book for all Exmoor pony lovers.
